About Us

The Medical Parasitology and Tropical Medicine sector in Georgia was established at the beginning of the 20th century. A strong scientific parasitology school was founded by professors Spiridon Virsaladze, Simon Kandelaki, and later, George Maruashvili, who played a pivotal role in the eradication of malaria in Georgia and the fight against several parasitic diseases. They introduced innovative methods for epidemic surveillance, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of parasitic and tropical diseases. Georgian parasitologists have contributed dozens of publications, doctoral dissertations, collected works, monographs, textbooks, and methodological and popular scientific writings.
